“For someone that’s experienced her fair share of performance anxiety whilst playing the trumpet on stage, speaking comes surprisingly naturally to me. Perhaps it’s all those times I was assigned as the narrator in the school play, but I certainly feel incredibly empowered when using my voice to communicate, to educate and discuss, to tell stories and foster connection.

Other than my work as co-host on Things Musicians Don’t Talk About, I’ve also had the pleasure of speaking on other podcasts including Bold as Brass, Talking Classical and Young Musicians Matter, and recently hosted the London Mozart Players’ Industry Insights webinar series. Alongside Hattie Butterworth, I’ve featured on BBC Radio 3’s Saturday Morning with Tom Service and Kate Kennedy’s Healing Musicians, and hosted a monthly show on Voices Radio.

My voice has taken me out into the physical world too, speaking on panels at the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Industry Careers Fest, EMPOWER (IWD) and the Royal Academy of Music. As TMDTA, Hatte and I have taken great pride in facilitating workshops and sharing our experiences with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, the Royal College of Music, Chetham’s School of Music, Wells Cathedral School, What Does Not, Leeds University, and we are soon to be hosting a talk series with the Royal Society of Musicians.

It’s always felt pretty wondrous to me that my voice is utterly mine. It enables and transmits the radical honesty and authenticity that I feel so committed to, and is a constant companion in the peaks and troughs of my self-discovery work. I am incessantly proud of the journey I continue tobe on, and how my voice shapes and is shaped by my experiences.”
